Predictions

1.100 years ago people made predictions of what they thought our world be like today. People predicted electric scrubbing, flying policeman, learning with an electric hat connected to an wire, robots helping girl multi task, and even croquet underwater. An interesting prediction was that whales would be trained to carry people underwater, as if people could breathe regularly in the deep ocean. Many movies involve predictions of our future, many super power movies, Wall-e, Back to the future, even more. everyone had had their own thoughts about what is going to happen in the next couple decades.

2. Many of the predictions were wishes, wishes to help their task or jobs become easier. when people predicted the  future they predicted what they thought could be possible, a lot of stuff i found was on flying cars and technology. an example would be cell phones, which we have today but it was an necessity to have since it helped with business and keeping in contact with old friends.

3. There were many predictions that ended up being true. Cell phones, Robots, Wings that help people fly (Han-gliders), even the prediction of people being taller. Now-a-days we have people that are over 7 feet, they even have a show on them. When predictions are first made it sounds like the most bizarre thing when black and white TV was a thing many people predicted that color TV would come out and yet it did, then there came 3D and Imax which many people did predict.

4. looking at all of the articles the trend of technologies have appeared throughout, it seems that many believed in electronic objects that could help improve ones life. Many concerns that they seem focused on is health and achievements that could be is money. many people seem to be focused on something that could improve their lives or risk of injuries to solve.

5. In the future i predict that people will have superpowers like the movies, i also think that scientist will figure out a way to save endangered species, new medicines for diseases, remote controlled closets, holograms, and even shoes that can help you fly. Most of all i want our future to hold the invention of flying cars and time machines!

6. As an Individual i feel like we have a lot of control over our future. We are able to give suggestions to new technologies to new foods and new abilities. Many scientist do study this stuff to try and make a better living or more intense ways. predictions have been made for new medicine to help sicknesses that maybe no one believes can be fixed. As groups i feel our government is in control of most things but they do get a ton of feedback for new ideas, it is their job to help our world and to listen to what we, as individuals say. if we are not in control i have no idea who is, i can imagine that our government would be but who would they be listening to.

How do you analyze a political cartoon?

1. I already knew that political cartoons were images and text on a social issue that could contain a political person or issue. What i didn't know is that the people that create the images are trying to persuade you into believing a different point of a problem, i also did not know that when objects are labeled in a picture it will help explain the image and the symbols. To analyze an political cartoon the artist can compare 2 things that are not alike to prove a point or a type of way the caricature looks, as if he were to be yawning it could mean that he is really tired, or if he were to look like he is yelling it could mean the person is infuriated.

2.I will look at political cartoons by the way they look and what some of the words say. My method would be to look at the whole picture starting off, then i would look specifically at the words and expressions and ease my way into looking at the seperate objects. once that is all complete i will try to guess on how i see this cartoon and if i am actually right..

Spanish American War
this political cartoon is describing the open door policy. the person wearing all american colors in the middle is supposed to be Uncle Sam, the expression on his face shows that he won its like a little smirk, just to prove that he is in the lead Written on the key is american diplomacy, i believe that this image literally shows .Hays taking over china and other people maybe from different nations are trying to get in

Philippine Conflict
MIT Visualizing Cultures. This political cartoon seems to represent uncle Sam chasing a Filipino, it looks like multiple soldier on the Europe side are watching the chase to see who wins and receives the Philippines.

The cartoon seems to be the Filipino's as an animal yelling out WAR in capitol letters, to show that they are also strong. Uncle Sam looks like he is frightened from the big expression and aggressiveness that this animal has. The caption of this picture is "the critter barks and wags at the same time, which end of him is lying."

Hawaiian, The Legend of Eddie Aikau

I believe that when the filmmakers named this film Hawaiian, the legend of Eddie Aikau, they wanted people to look at this documentary as a reservation of the Hawaiian culture, and how this one man could change how people looked at Hawaii. The topic in this documentary was Eddie Aikau, the focus was the Hawaiians that identified a surfing career of Eddie Aikau, and the angle was argued, that Eddie Aikau worked hard to sustain Hawaiian culture, and brought honor to his family and ancestors through his courageous actions. This documentary was made as part of ESPN's programming because surfing was a huge sport in Hawaii, many of the competitions that were showed are still happening today, so it could've been an example of different competitions going on in different parts of the US. If this film was made by PBS or the history channel it would've been more factual, more dramatic, and definitely more focused on Hawaiian culture.

This documentary was mainly focused on Eddies fight, Hawaiian culture, the ocean, surfing, family, ancestors, Eddie's passion, community, and pride.

Phrenology Head

Today in class we looked at a head that was made by L.N Fowler, a head that specifically shows phrenology. Phrenology is defined as the detailed study of the shape and size of the cranium as a supposed indication of character and mental abilities. Looking up information on this head we figured out that it was not an artifact and that it has been made in many places specifically in Oregon. Provenance is the place of origin or earliest known history, which is what we did in class, we looked up where this object came from, who made it, how they made it, and if it was an original. the type of research that most of our class did to find this object was to look up phrenology and L.N. Fowler, We all lead on from there after we got a small explanation of it. This head is not used as much in the world today, because no one can really tell if its true or not, or if the signs of symptoms and different emotions actually happen in that area.
